How To Analyse Your Dreams (Video)

May 8, 2020 By Ben McEvoy

This is probably one of the strangest videos I’ll ever do.

We’re talking about dream analysis, using art to get into your unconscious, tarot readings, self-help practices, and examining the metaphors that rule our lives.

How To Analyse Your Dreams

Works that inspired this video:

  • Carl Jung’s Man and His Symbols (link) (review)
  • Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams (link)
  • George Lakoff’s Metaphors We Live By (link)
  • Milton Erickson’s My Voice Will Go With You (link)
  • Rainer Maria Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet (link) (review)
  • Wall Street Playboy’s ‘How to Use Art to Make Decisions’ (link) (review)

Questions to ask yourself when analysing your dreams (timestamp = 9:43):

  • What are the core/key/most striking images of the dream?
  • How are the images connected?
  • Can you think of at least three potential meanings of the symbols?
  • What was the mood of the dream? What emotions did you feel?
  • Did the dream highlight a wish or ambition? Or did it work through a fear?
  • What obstacles did you face in the dream?
  • Could anything in the dream be read metaphorically?
  • Did the dream leave a question unanswered or present you with a decision to be made?

The 5-Day Practice Core Questions (timestamp = 10:25):

  1. What do you get from ___? What’s the payoff?
  2. What will it cost you?
  3. What would it mean for you to have no ___ at all?
  4. What evidence do you have for this?

Supplemental Questions:

  • What is the meaning of ___?
  • What is the story you are holding regarding all of this?
  • What can you do as a matter of practice to ensure the holding of a preferred story?

And, to top it all off, here’s my recommend tarot deck:
