A Morning Routine That Creates Momentum

August 17, 2020 By Ben McEvoy

Want a morning routine that creates momentum?

A morning routine that supports your goals and ambitions?

Steal mine.

This is the counterpart to my, honestly, more important evening routine.

First thing:

  • Eyes open, check sales figures from overnight.

Immediately next:

  • Two pints of water – hydration helps focus.
  • Make a vegetable/vegan protein shake w/ almond milk (IsoPure and Vega are my favourites)
  • Strong cafetière coffee (this brand is my favourite)
  • Take nootropic supplements (currently Gorilla Mind)

Write:

  • Three pages longhand and stream-of-conscious-style in a journal. This is “morning pages” from Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. Clears out the cobwebs, removes negative residue from dreams and night before. Traps anxieties on the page.

Affirmations:

  • Combats negative self-talk. Sounds woo-woo, but many successful people you admire swear by them and they only take a few minutes. Let me know if you want a whole post on this topic.

Move:

  • 3 Wim Hof breaths, followed by either:
    • yoga flow for 10-15 minutes
    • running 4 miles minimum
    • weightlifting routine (either John Doe or Cross-fit)

Then shower:

  • Contrasting cold and hot water. Sometimes put something educational, like a learn Italian tape, on in the background.

Pretty simple stuff, but seems to prep you pretty well for the day ahead.

People might be surprised that I don’t put reading in the morning.

I’ll sometimes get a few pages of something read, but I do most of my reading in the evening.

What’s your morning routine?
