#1 Audiobook Pick of the Week

May 8, 2020 By Ben McEvoy

We’re kicking off a new regular feature called Audiobook Pick of the Week.

My dirty secret for reading so many books is an audiobook and running addiction.

I’ve got Anna Karenina and The Illustrated Man on my bedside right now, but I’ve also downloaded both of these books in audiobook form from Audible.

Audiobooks keep me company as I keep my cardiovascular system in shape.

Seriously, having a well-read beautifully produced story in your ears really makes exercise fly by.

I look forward to my morning runs because I get to relax and watch a movie unfold in my mind.

I do love audiobooks, but I also think it’s difficult to find audiobooks that are decently read. So when I find a great audiobook I’m going to share it here with you. I’ve also got a backlog of favourite audiobooks that I can’t wait to recommend.

The Audiobook Pick of the Week is Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man

The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury is one of my favourite books of all time. It’s certainly my favourite short story collection (and it’s in fine company).

The thing I love about Bradbury is just how much his writing exudes joy and play.

You’re reading a writer who just damn well loved what he was doing.

Makes for a wonderful reading/listening experience.

I’ve bought several copies of The Illustrated Man over the years – they all have beautiful covers – and now I’m adding Scott Brick’s superb narration of Bradbury’s work to the collection.

I got drunk on Moët’s Rose Champagne and went on a book buying binge on account of Short Story Month. No regrets. This cover is gorgeous.

You can get The Illustrated Man for free when signing up to Amazon through this link.

Or you can purchase it as a one-off from Amazon here.
