I was sold on Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth years before they were released. Years before they were even in the manufacturing stage.
You’re probably the same. If you’re considering adding Gorilla Mind Rush or Smooth to your nootropic arsenal, it’s likely because of Mike, Derek, or Chris.
What stunned me the most about watching Mike’s rise over the last few years wasn’t his message. It wasn’t his transition into politics as a complete unknown turned global contender. It wasn’t any of that. It was his work ethic.
When I see people crushing it, I always wonder what’s helping them. In almost 100% of the cases successful people have an edge (a supplement, a nootropic, or something less benign) and have no shame about it.
I myself used modafinil during my Oxford University career. Many of my peers – lawyers, biochemists, doctors – resorted to harder stuff.
So I was pre-sold on Gorilla Mind and was one of the first people to get my hands on it.
But does Gorilla Mind live up to the hype?
I’ve tested the Gorilla Mind Rush and Gorilla Mind Smooth supplements (and the Youth Serum) for three months now and here is my review.
Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth Nootropic Supplement Review
This Gorilla Mind review will be as comprehensive as possible (without sacrificing succinctness).
We’ll cover what Gorilla Mind feels like, the effects, how these nootropics compare to other supplements, how to take it, what’s inside Gorilla Mind, and how you might what to use it in different situations like studying, the gym, job interviews, and socialising.
Gorilla Mind Rush for the gym
Gorilla Mind Rush is without a doubt the best supplement I’ve taken for crushing it at the gym.
I used to be a complete gym rat but, with age and my focus shifting more to making money, I haven’t gone as much as I used to. I also noticed most gym days I was just dragging ass. Half the time, I’d cut the gym workout short. I knew that the old me would have had a lot more reps and sets in the tank.
But taking Gorilla Mind Rush on an empty stomach with a coffee and then hitting the gym was like getting me at my PEAK.
I get so immersed in weight training when I’m on Rush that I don’t notice the time go.
I’ve worked out easily for 2 hours because I’ve been enjoying it so much and I have great energy from start to finish.
I can lift more – heavier weights, more reps – and I feel a greater control and mind-muscle connection.
I’m fully present in the gym and focused on doing my best for every rep.
When I take Gorilla Mind Rush (maybe two or three times a week), I make sure I have a gym workout that day otherwise I’m leaving a lot of the supplement’s benefits on the table.
The great thing is that you can have an awesome workout and when you leave the gym you still have energy to get back to work and continue crushing it.
Before, I’ve done a full body weight workout and then just wanted to laze around for the rest of the day.
Not on Rush.
I get my post-workout meal in, grab a cold shower, and then I’m back at it with energy, vigour, and passion.
If you love a good workout or if you’re workouts have been lacking recently, you will LOVE Rush.
I also credit Gorilla Mind Rush with helping me to lose 30+ pounds of fat over the last few months (I really let myself go last year) and finally start seeing my abs again.
Gorilla Mind in the workplace
So I’m totally introverted.
When I’m in the office, I’m super cool just shutting off from others and doing my own thing. I also take a lot of time to get started and get distracted easily when I’m working on something for someone else that I’m not particularly passionate about (think a liberal arts student working in finance and you get the idea).
But I popped 3 Rush on a day when I was in the office and holy shit I was on another level.
There was this big project the team had been tasked with and no one wanted to get stuck into it. It seemed like too big of a mountain to climb and it wasn’t exactly in anyone’s job description. So people were cool just hiding and carrying on with their typical day-to-day duties.
But on the day I took Rush, I got that project hammered out to 70% completion.
I was motivated, eager and happy to talk and collaborate with others, and interested despite the work being tedious and difficult.
That’s another win for Rush.
Gorilla Mind Rush for exams
I wish I’d had Gorilla Mind Rush during my Oxford University exams.
I’d made do with Modafinil back in the day but Gorilla Mind Rush trumps Modafinil.
Modafinil gives you this narrow high-speed train focus with tunnel vision. Not great for writing artistic essays (maybe good for science and maths).
But Rush gives you the same energy and passion, except it’s like you have the option to scale back, pause, and get stuck into more abstract thought. It’s like a switch you can hit. This is super beneficial when you’re doing something that requires concentration but also nuanced thought.
Gorilla Mind Smooth for studying
Rush is great for studying but I prefer Smooth with a bit of coffee.
At the moment, I’m studying Japanese and my studies had really stalled.
I’d hit the “Intermediate Blues” a long time ago and was struggling to see any progression (totally normal, especially with Japanese which is the most difficult language for a native English speaker to learn).
But I’ll take Smooth either when I plan to study or I’ll make sure I get some studying in on the days when I have Smooth in my system.
Results?
Brilliant focus. Sustained not jittery. Just like you can keep going smoothly. No distractions.
I always fall victim to task switching and procrastination. Like I have to hide my phone when I’m doing deep work because I know I’ll start trawling the net for nonsense or some shit.
But when you study with Smooth, studying is THE thing you wanna do.
Time goes by and, hey, you notice that you’ve just spent 45 minutes solely focused on learning what you need to learn.
What about memory and retention?
Okay, so there’s some really cool shit in Rush and Smooth. Stuff I’ve already taken on it’s own and fallen in love with before.
Stuff like Bacopa which is proven to increase long term memory.
There’s also Huperzine A, again which I’ve taken on its own, which has a similar effect on memory and there are countless studies showing its beneficial effect in memory formation.
Now I’ve only taken Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth for three months so I can’t make too many conclusions about long term memory.
I HAVE noticed that I retain new Japanese vocabulary with greater ease and my verbal fluidity has increased.
Now is this because I’ve experienced greater focus during study time and that focus has translated to better memory formation?
Or is this because I’ve recently taken a more active role in my studies?
Who knows?
All I know is that in the past three months I’ve been taking Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth, my Japanese ability has (subjectively) increased and inflected in a way that I haven’t experienced in over a year.
Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth for kicking you into action
I hit a burn-out period where I found it hard to motivate myself for a few weeks.
I’m massively internally motivated. And I was still able to get myself going and get shit done. But it just took longer.
It was harder to get out of bed in the morning (I still did it but I’m just saying it was harder). I was moving slower.
But Gorilla Mind (both Rush and Smooth) was a BIG HELP during that time.
On those days when I was really struggling to get going, I knew I could be back on top and at my Peak within 30 minutes if I just knocked back a couple of Rush or Smooth.
Do not underestimate the power of having a little supplement that will help you through a hard time.
This time would have been 10x harder without a supplement this effective.
In addition to the motivational boost Gorilla Mind gives you, there is a little mood boost too.
People remarked that I seemed happy and driven and found it hard to believe I was going through a rough time. That’s a testament partly to Gorilla Mind and Wim Hof breathing.
Gorilla Mind Smooth for job interviews
I recently decided to turn up for a job interview for a company that looked cool.
It was a group interview with other candidates and I took Gorilla Mind Rush.
I found that my ability to concentrate and speak was enhanced but, likely because of the stimulant component, I was also more nervous than I should have been.
So I wouldn’t recommend Rush for an interview situation or a situation in which you are already likely to be nervous.
I’m not saying Rush makes you nervous, because the l-theanine really smooths out the caffeine components, but if you’re easily anxious, I’d recommend staying away from stimulants in situations where your heartbeat will naturally rise anyway.
But…
I got a callback for a second interview (the other candidates didn’t)!
This was a one-on-one.
For this one I took Gorilla Mind Smooth and I was way more comfortable.
I found it easy to engage, ask intelligent questions, and present myself in the way I wanted to.
And I got another callback!
So if you have an job interview or anything that requires you to be switched on, I’d recommend Smooth.
Gorilla Mind Smooth for everyday productivity
You can’t take Gorilla Mind Rush everyday because of the stimulants.
It will lose its effect (I’m guessing).
But you can take Gorilla Mind Smooth everyday.
I don’t take it everyday. But I will take Smooth on days where I want to be extra productive but not ramped up too much.
I find Smooth is very nice to take on a day where you want to increase focus without feeling like you’re on something.
It feels very… well… smooth.
Very natural and the focus is sustained throughout the day.
You get a nice rise, which carries through the entire day and there is no crash.
Gorilla Mind Rush/Smooth for socialising
Both Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth make socialising easy and fun.
Rush gets the edge here, and you’ll find you want to do most of the talking in a group situation (that’s the stimulants haha). But Smooth lets you be a good listener and stay engaged.
I’m naturally introverted and don’t like talking, but when I’ve got Gorilla Mind in my system I love socialising.
I love getting stuck into conversations and I find myself bringing interesting nuance to discussions.
I’ve met a lot of new people with Gorilla Mind in my system and they refuse to believe I’m shy or introverted.
Gorilla Mind Rush Effects – What it feels like
Gorilla Mind Rush feels very natural.
You feel “lift off” around 30 minutes after taking it on an empty stomach and then you feel the urge/need/motivation to start getting shit done.
If I take it first thing in the morning, 30 minutes later my eyes will be wide awake, my mind has flickered on, and I’m trying to shower, brush my teeth, and dress VERY quickly so I can start getting to work.
Again, it doesn’t feel like a substance is making you like this.
It just feels like YOU on your best/most motivated day.
The stimulants definitely give this a bit of a kick, so if you’re sensitive to caffeine, I’d advise you only take one capsule as an evaluative dose and see how you react.
I can imagine some people could become overwhelmed on this, but I love it. I also think the l-theanine and bacopa obviously do a very nice job of taking the stimulant edge away.
That’s probably why there isn’t any crash.
I have no idea why there’s no crash.
I’m not a scientist.
But I freaking love this aspect of Gorilla Mind Rush.
You have to take Rush early in the morning. Even if I take it early in the morning, my mind is still going and I’m still happy to work later at night. So keep that in mind!
Gorilla Mind Smooth Effects – What it feels like
Gorilla Mind Smooth is very similar to Rush (after all it shares the same main ingredients) but without the kick.
There’s no chance of getting overwhelmed on this one.
The “lift off” moment is less noticeable with Smooth but you’re able to zone in on work and sustain long hours with this version in your system.
I’d describe Smooth as a feeling of contentment in steady productivity.
Again, this one lasts all day, but I’m more comfortable taking Smooth a little later in the day (not past midday though) because I can still sleep easily later that night.
How I’d compare Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth to other supplements
I’ve taken Huperzine A, which is a main ingredient of Gorilla Mind, on its own. And I can definitely notice that I have that in my system when I take Gorilla Mind.
If you don’t know what Huperzine A feels like, it’s a feeling of crisp alertness. You feel awake, engaged, and your mind feels primed to absorb information. There’s also a stimulant-like kick (in my opinion).
I’ve also taken (and love) Bacopa monnieri on its own. That’s another main ingredient of the Gorilla Mind supplements.
Again, I can definitely tell there’s some Bacopa in there because of the mood elevation component.
I can also pick up on the l-theanine and caffeine combination in Gorilla Mind Rush, as that was the first nootropic combination I played with back in my university days (it’s a classic).
I can’t say either of the Gorilla Mind nootropics feel exactly like anything else I’ve taken because it’s quite a unique blend.
It’s definitely not like modafinil, for instance, although I find I get more work done with Gorilla Mind in my system than modafinil and I don’t have any of the harsh negative side effects from modafinil.
I’ve tried A LOT of supplements and nootropics (blends and singles) and I’ve gotta say that Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth are my favourites.
Things to take with Gorilla Mind
I haven’t mixed much other stuff with Gorilla Mind.
But I have taken Gorilla Mind Rush with Phenibut, and that always leads to a phenomenal day. You could easily have one of your best days of the year on that combination.
Obviously I also mix coffee with Gorilla Mind because I’m dependent on coffee and drink it every morning. I find it goes very nicely and I was surprised that the stimulants in Gorilla Mind Rush combined with the coffee actually didn’t overwhelm me.
I also take GABA before bed most nights to help with sleep, mood, and aid workout recovery. Sometimes I’ll take GABA during the day.
I find the combination of GABA and Gorilla Mind very nice as it boosts the mood-lifting aspect of Gorilla Mind a little bit more.
Side effects of Gorilla Mind
Every supplement/nootropic has side effects of some sort.
What side effects you get usually as much to do with your body’s personal makeup as the supplement itself.
For me, I’ve got IBS. And even though I love Bacopa, occasionally my stomach will feel a bit bloated when I take it. This doesn’t happen as much with Gorilla Mind.
Obviously I take bigger quantities of Bacopa when I do it on it’s own. But if I’m having a bad stomach day, I do get some extra bloating. Nothing that outweighs the benefits of the supplement though.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that if I don’t drink a lot of water, I might develop a small headache later in the day after taking Gorilla Mind.
Easy fix. Drink more water.
Also, although there is definitely a mood-elevating component to the Gorilla Mind supplements, if I’m already in a pissed-off mood when I take them, I find I can be a bit more stern or impatient.
Aside from that, I’ve not noticed any side effects from Gorilla Mind Rush or Smooth.
Advice for beginners taking Gorilla Mind (first time)
Take ONE capsule.
That’s your evaluative dose.
Gorilla Mind is no joke.
I’m a big guy (185 cm, almost 200 lbs). I’ve also experimented with a lot of different supplements and nootropics. And I know my body well.
Even I took one capsule as an evaluative dose because I wanted to be sensible.
I found that I like 2 capsule of Gorilla Mind Rush combined with 1 capsule or Gorilla Mind Smooth on the Rush Days, or 1-2 Gorilla Mind Smooth capsules on the Smooth days.
What’s inside Gorilla Mind
Let’s round off this Gorilla Mind supplement review by taking a look at the ingredients.
First, this is what’s inside Gorilla Mind Rush:
- DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol): This supplement helps increase the brain’s information processing and transmitting capacities by raising acetylcholine levels.
- N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine: This is an amino acid that improves mood and motivation and lowers stress and anxiety.
- L-theanine: This is the good stuff in green tea. It balances the caffeine out well, taking away any potential crash or jitters, and works well as a mood and motivation booster.
- Alpha GPC: This is the highest quality choline form, which improves cognitive and physical functioning. This is a great compound if you want to increase your concentration and information retention.
- Di-Caffeine Malate: This is a smooth caffeine compound, one that doesn’t overstimulate you.
- Bacopa monnieri: This is an adaptogen that has been proven to increase information retention, reduce stress and anxiety, and also act as a mood-booster, being mildly euphoric. It also has great anti-aging properties.
- N-phenethyl Dimethylamine Citrate: This is a stimulant that has positive effects on mood, motivation, concentration, information recall, and even fat burning.
- 2-Aminoisoheptane: Another stimulant that will help boost your mood and productivity.
- Higenamine: Yes, another stimulant! This is Gorilla Mind Rush, after all.
- BioPerine (Black Pepper Extract): This helps the body absorb all the other components of Gorilla Mind.
- Huperzine A: This is neuroprotective and has been proven to have positive and noticeable memory enhancing qualities.
So all good stuff!
And here’s what’s inside Gorilla Mind Smooth:
As you can see, Gorilla Mind Smooth has the same ingredients (or secret sauce) as Gorilla Mind Rush, except the stimulants have been removed.
There’s just one ingredient that’s been added to replace the removal of all the stimulants.
That new ingredient is Theacrine, which is kind of similar to caffeine, with mild stimulant effects, though it’s really nothing hardcore. Think smooth, stable energy without jitters or a crash.
Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth Review: Final Thoughts
The Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth supplements are complete knock-outs as far as nootropics are concerned.
I’ve tried A LOT of different supplements and nootropics and Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth are easily my favourites because they give you the biggest bang for your buck (the price is cheap in my opinion) without crazy side effects, and all the ingredients are healthy and scientifically studied to improve productivity, concentration, information retention, and mood.
If I had to choose a favourite between Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth, I’d have to give the edge to Rush because I love a great stimulant. But they’re both fantastic and definitely have their place in your supplement collection.
Order the combo pack so you can try both versions (Rush and Smooth).
I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
In fact, I guarantee you will be extremely impressed.
