Here’s how to stop a cold in one day

June 25, 2016 By Ben McEvoy

I’m gonna teach you how to stop a cold in one day.

This is the technique I literally used 2 days ago. I did the things I’m about to talk about and when I woke up the next day… BAM! My cold was gone.

I haven’t seen this “technique” anywhere else. This is just a combination of stuff that I did intuitively that killed my cold before it could even start.

You know, I actually haven’t had a cold for a few months now. I used to get them all the time. But since starting the Wim Hof Method, I’m feeling super healthy all the time.

So this cold took me by surprise. I was flying back to England from Austria. Just a 2-hour flight. But that was enough to give me the warning signals of a big old impending cold.

Travelling takes a whole day, even a 2-hour flight, and it really beats your body up bad.

The airport toilets were out of soap. The vending machine food looked like it had been there too long (and the taste confirmed it). And the little kid who punched me in the crotch while going through security definitely had germs all over him. Then you’ve got the recycled air on the plane, people coughing and sneezing and you’re just breathing that crap in.

By the end of the day, my nose was blocked worse than London rush hour, my throat was scratchy, and my body ached.

To make things WORSE… I knew I had a flight to Tokyo in about 10 days. That’s an 11-hour flight. If this little baby flight gave me this cold, what was gonna happen when I headed off to the land of the rising sun?

That’s when I decided… I’m gonna kill this cold right now.

And I did!

I followed this cold killer routine during the day, went to sleep at night, and in the morning my impending cold was gone. No more blocked nose, no sore throat, no watery eyes or lethargy. I was vibrant, happy and ready to get back to work!

Here’s how I did it:

1. Breathing meditation in the morning

I woke up and the first thing I did – after drinking water and using the bathroom but before coffee – was Wim Hof breathing. You can check out my thoughts on the course here. The breathing is shown in this video. I did three rounds of this.

2. Get a sweat with cardio

After the breathing, I went straight into some light cardio. Just enough to work up a sweat. I did 20 minutes overall. The first 5 minutes were a brisk walk on a steep incline treadmill, then 5 minutes of jogging, then 10 minutes of the stationary bike.

3. A shit-ton of water

You always hear about having 8 glasses of water a day. Screw that. You need to flush your system and make sure you’re hydrated. Drink enough water so your pee is clear and you’re using the bathroom at least every hour.

4. Big, fatty breakfast

I’m talking bacon, eggs and toast smothered with butter. If you’re on a diet, forget about that for today. Eat clean but mean.

5. Contrast shower

After the breakfast, you’re gonna want to take a contrast shower. That basically means you alternate between hot and cold water. There are many ways you can do this. I started with 1 minute of cold, followed by 5 minutes of hot and ended on 1 minute of cold. You could switch between hot and cold every 30 seconds. Whatever works for you.

6. Green juice

I think this is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the whole routine. I went to a farmer’s market and picked up $15 worth of local fruits and vegetables. This is what I got:

– Beetroot
– Carrots
– Celery
– Cucumber
– Apples
– Pineapple
– Lemon

Then I made a couple of green juices throughout the day. I used this juicer.

Here’s a great smoothie recipe:

1 beetroot
2 carrots
1 apple
1 cucumber
2 celery

I felt awesome almost immediately after drinking the green smoothie. You can get a lot more vegetable nutrients from juicing than you normally could just from munching through whole vegetables.

7. Heavy evening workout

In addition to the light cardio in the morning, you also want to do a more intense workout in the evening. I recommend lifting some light weights for high repetitions to force you blood to pump throughout your body.

8. Supplement right

These are the supplements I took:
– Vitamin D3 5,000 IU  in the morning
– Berocca
– 100mg Rhodiola Rosea
– 200mg of magnesium in the evening
– Liver tabs – these are little pieces of desiccated liver. I took 15 over the course of the day

There you have it. I followed those 8 steps throughout the day and when I woke up the next morning my cold was gone.

I’m not a scientist. But I think the reason this worked is because these steps helped me:

– Flush my system of bad stuff
– Fill my system with good stuff
– Lower my stress hormones
– Increase my happy chemicals

The medical explanation for why this worked is basically my body said, ’Holy crap! This guy does NOT wanna get sick! Let’s destroy this cold!’

The interesting thing about all the stuff above is that they’re not exactly specific to getting rid of the cold. All of that stuff could be done on a regular basis and would likely improve your immune system.

Anyways, if you’ve got a cold coming on and home remedies have never worked for you, try my routine. I’m so impressed with how quickly it worked, I’m gonna use it again the next time I feel crappy.

P.S. Do you have any home remedies for beating a cold in just 1 day? Lemme know in the comments 🙂 Stay healthy, my friends!
