What Kind of Email Newsletter Should You Start? (Video)

May 13, 2020 By Ben McEvoy

Make sure you check out the first video on starting an email newsletter before watching this one.

What kind of email newsletter should you send? (Cliff Notes)

Ask yourself:

  • How can I give value to my subscribers?
  • What would get them to sign up?
  • Who is my ideal subscriber? Picture them.

There has to be an offer, a hook, something concrete. It can’t just be “newsletter”.

Curation? Or original content?

Curation is easier and still very valuable – news curation is a big industry (people pay a lot for investment tips for example)

Tips? Recommendations? Ads for your own products? A catalogue?

Objective? Is the email content enough? Or are you directing them to your YouTube videos or website?

Adapted from Lewis Howes:

  • What’s the vision for your newsletter? How many people do you want to reach? Impact? By when?
  • How long are you committed to doing your newsletter for?
  • How much money do you want to make each year with your newsletter?

We’ll talk more about the finer details of getting a newsletter up and running in the next videos to follow.

If you want my quick recommendation of best email newsletter service however, I recommend and personally use ConvertKit.
