Where to Start with Japanese Literature

Japanese books recommended in the video:

  • Haruki Murakami: essay collection called What I Talk About When I Talk About Running; short story collection called After the Quake; novel called Norwegian Wood.
  • Yukio Mishima: start with The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea.
  • Yasunari Kawabata: start with either Snow Country or Palm of the Hand Stories.
  • Eiji Yoshikawa: read Musashi, and check out Vagabond for the same story in manga form.
